Innovative R&D Process

Walrus Pump’s success is rooted in a strong history of innovation and R&D, one of our core strengths. We employ a rigorous R&D process to ensure our product development directly addresses client needs and challenges. Our Sales Department and front-line service teams play a critical role in identifying product development opportunities through daily client interactions. They pinpoint pain points and areas for improvement. Alternatively, our Research & Development Department might make proposals based on domestic/ international trends and regulations regarding pumps. Once a project is initiated, R&D teams collaborate on design, prototyping, and small-batch trial production. Throughout this process, we prioritize a product concept that is "stable, quiet, and energy-saving." The product verification testing phase includes a comprehensive evaluation of key performance metrics such as pump characteristics, energy efficiency, and noise levels. Small-scale trial production enables further optimization and refinement of production efficiency before full-scale manufacturing begins, following a review.
 
Our commitment to "injecting innovation" is reflected in our significant resource allocation. In 2023, we dedicated NT$63.52 million (4.8% of revenue) and a team of 51 skilled professionals to product R&D and innovation efforts. Quality Assurance - Pump Dynamic Laboratory

 

In response to the Taiwanese government's 2012 update of CNS 14400 regulations, which spurred increased market focus on the environmental performance of motors, such as energy efficiency, Walrus Pump promptly invested in establishing the Pump Dynamic Laboratory. This initiative, supported by the creation of dedicated Production Technology and Product Verification Departments, demonstrates our commitment to developing high-efficiency motors that seamlessly integrate with our pumps. Our goal is to consistently elevate product performance to meet evolving global trends and regulatory requirements. The laboratory, established through the collaborative efforts of supervisors of three departments and a nearly NT$3.905 million investment, has been operational since 2012. A significant milestone was achieved in 2015 when the lab secured two prestigious ISO/IEC 17025 test laboratory certifications: one issued by the Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF) and the other by TÜV NORD Taiwan. This distinction positions the Pump Dynamic Laboratory as one of the very few laboratories in Taiwan's pump industry certified for both pump and motor testing. These certifications not only validate the laboratory's professionalism but also affirm our dedication to delivering high-quality, standards-compliant products.
In addition to rigorous internal product testing, the Pump Power Laboratory also accepts external testing commissions. In 2023, the laboratory successfully completed 690 pump tests and 36 motor tests for external clients, generating an economic benefit of NT$6.348 million.

 

High Added-Value Through Technological Advantages

With over 50 years of R&D experience, Walrus Pump is dedicated to pioneering new product applications and introducing cutting-edge materials and patented design technologies. These advancements build upon our core product strengths: stability, quiet operation, and energy conservation. We've embraced highperformance composite materials (plastics) in our product manufacturing processes. This shift eliminates pollution and heat generation associated with traditional iron components. It also significantly reduces water pump casing weight by 60% to 70%, minimizing transportation burdens. Furthermore, the superior workability of these engineering plastics allows for efficient injection molding, eliminating the need for further processing. This streamlines production and shortens lead times from 4-6 months to just 4-6 days. The combined benefits translate to reduced manufacturing costs and improved delivery efficiency. Recognizing the growing importance of digitalization, we are actively integrating IoT cloud-based intelligent monitoring into our water pump products. This value-adding technology elevates the client water use experience. These advancements showcase the full spectrum of our technological advantages.
